weddings: something special, banquet atelier & workshop has a beautiful guest “book” print

At the recent National Stationery Show in NYC that we attended we met with Sarah Edmonds, Creative Director and her partner Tammy Lawrence of Banquet Atelier & Workshop. We love their nature inspired screen printed limited edition prints and stationery… especially the whale! (see below) But most of all we love their Special Occasion Guest Book Print, unframed for $36. This is a unique way to remember your wedding day or anniversary party or even a milestone birthday. A guest book will sit on a shelf or in a box somewhere but something like this that you can … Read more

the blue book from house beautiful, 350 inspiring ways to decorate with blue

House Beautiful’s little BLUE book is a great decorating reference. Measuring only 5 1/2 inches by 7 inches in size, this a totable book that you can keep in your bag. It doesn’t just give you inspirational photos of rooms, but designer’s tips and paint suggestions that they have actually used. It also goes room by room on how to interject blues to their best advantage in every area of your home. Suggestions and examples of color pairings, like blue and yellow are also very helpful.

citrus salad: susan spungen shares a recipe…and that she has a new book on the way!

Susan Spungen is unbelievably talented. Susan is a cook, food stylist, recipe developer, editor and author. I had the pleasure of working with Susan at Martha Stewart Living (Susan was the founding food editor for Martha Stewart Living). I even got a chance to collaborate and cover her brother’s wedding for the magazine at the iconic Rainbow Room- with a dream team of Susan, floral & event designer ,Michael George and cake baker Ron Ben-Israel. After MSLO, we kept in touch and I’d run into Susan here and there in the city and even on a set… like the … Read more

personalize your table setting with monogram chair covers & matchbooks

To continue with our monogram theme this week I wanted to share with you a table I styled for InStyle magazine. First I had Gail Brill (our weddings contributor this month on the blog!) design a personal monogram for the couple. We then gave the monogram design to Penn & Fletcher in Long Island City to embroider chair covers in a blue that was in our color palette. Now I did these here for a wedding reception, just for the bride and groom, but you can do this idea for your own chairs at home too. We simply … Read more

books: carolyne roehm’s “flowers”

I’m a collector of Carolyne Roehm’s books and I hope that her latest book “Flowers” will show up under my Christmas tree! Here’s a gorgeous example of a floral arrangement using reds, but with the accent colors of corals, pinks and burgundy (deep red) that I suggested in this weeks’ color palette (featured on monday). What a great hostess gift or for the gardener on your list. This book includes glossaries of flowers, so it’s a resource book as well.

books: the last course by claudia fleming

Claudia Fleming, pastry chef and co-owner of North Fork Table and Inn wrote a book back in 2001 with writer Melissa Clark called “The Last Course: The Desserts of Gramercy Tavern” when Claudia was the pastry chef there.  Claudia is a winner of the James Beard Outstanding Pastry Chef Award. There are a few copies on Amazon.com, and well worth the investment if you love making your own unique desserts for entertaining. I particularly love her Chocolate Caramel Tarts with sea salt (see photo below).  This book is a perfect gift for someone that loves to bake or just … Read more

the big book of chic

This fall many new design books are being released, but across the board it seems the reviews for Miles Redd’s new book “The Big Book of Chic” are fantastic. It’s available to pre-order on Amazon and it’s expected release date is October 23rd, 2012. Sara Ruffin Costello, reviewing for The Wall Street Journal said, “Flipping through the pages is like going to a cocktail party in heaven in which Diana Vreeland insists you try the frozen vodka shots.”.

floral inspiration: carolyne roehm’s books

When looking for floral inspriation for your wedding, an anniversary party, birthday party, holiday celebration- or even by season, Carolyne Roehm’s books are sure to inspire you. She’s coming out with a brand new book on November 6th- entitled “Flowers”. You can pre-order this book or any of her collection of books on Amazon.com. These beautiful arrangements with mums are from her book “A Passion for Flowers”. She uses baskets a lot as vases. What I would do is simply put your floral arrangement in a vase or jar that is just slightly shorter than your basket height … Read more

tiffany & co. books…great gifts!

In my search for the Tiffany & Co. Table Settings Book I came across many interesting books, from celebrated fashion editor Grace Mirabella to design books on Tiffany Style to Tiffany flatware and silver. But the one that I actually ordered and I’m excited to read is Marjorie Hart’s memoir of working at Tiffany’s one summer in the 1940’s.  (see review below) Any of these would make great gifts for the upcoming holiday season! I start shopping for Christmas gifts in September so I’m not rushing around at the last minute. These are all available on Amazon. There is … Read more
