meet johana molina, felting extraordinaire from Calera De Tango, Chile

I still can’t get over how amazing these felt animals are, handmade by Johana Molina, a 25 year old artist living in Chile. Her shop FeltingDreams on etsy.com has small collectable felt animals that range from about $40-$100. For the holidays these would make sweet additions to the tops of wrapped presents, or make your own magical holiday town display complete with traveling mice. But just on their own I love them.  She started sewing at the age of 7 and in 2010 she discovered fiber art and started creating wire skeletons that she could cover in wool felt. … Read more

Hableland is here! A new rug line by the sister team of Hable Construction

I’m a big fan of Hable Construction and my friends behind the company, sisters Susan and Katharine (You might recognize the name from Garnett Hill where their holiday felt stockings and rugs have been featured for several years).  They have the most amazing prints, in fabrics, home goods, small case goods etc. and now they have partnered with Capel Rugs to introduce Hableland. They just introduced the line at the High Point Furniture Market and the rugs are available now. I’m so excited for this new collection, I think the “Stars” is one of my favorites. -Lynn Butler Beling … Read more

a wedding color palette of reds and neutrals (and a perfect palette for the upcoming holidays too)

This week’s color palette of reds and neutrals is beautiful for a wedding. There are  so many red flowers to choose from and foliage and berries to weave into bouquets and centerpieces. We pulled inspiration for you to get you started. And don’t forget wedding magazines and books are sometimes the best place to start to get ideas for your fall parties or holiday celebration decor. We love the books by Tara Guerard, Michael George, Matthew Robbins and Martha Stewart. Bouquet Image above via Taylored Events. Take cues from this floral combination for a gorgeous holiday centerpiece. These flowers in … Read more

need a fast centerpiece idea? it’s as simple as a bowl of oranges

Having friends over at the last minute or just looking for a different table setting idea other than flowers? Pick up fruit, like a bag of oranges and place them in a white bowl (like above) or a wire bowl (see below).  Fruit in multiples is the key to it looking abundant and stylish.  Fruit alone can be very beautiful and minimal- whether it’s apples, grapes, limes etc. – it all depends on your color palette, but keep to one type of fruit for the biggest visual impact. If your table is very large, group in several bowls or one … Read more

create a dramatic table setting with black, peach and pale pink

I love these black compotes and bowls that I have on my online store, little blue dish. (They are made by an Italian glass company called Nason Moretti.) I like to fill vessels with candy for quick and easy centerpieces and also fill the felt favors you see tied with black polka dot ribbon with candy as well for guests to take home. This color palette could really work for any season and any occasion- and for more formal gatherings add a calligraphed place card for each guest within the palette. I alternated black cards with cream calligraphy and … Read more

fashion illustrations on your table? yes! a daughter breathes new life into her mother’s passion in a very unexpected way

Liz Glasgow, daughter of fashion illustrator Hilda Glasgow was admiring her mother’s illustrations one day. After her mothers passing at age 91, Liz kept the illustrations all together in a white cabinet which she had moved to her Long Island home. Her mother was one of the top fashion illustrators from 1940-1970 for the likes of everyone from Vogue to Glamour to Saks Fifth Avenue. “The idea that people should enjoy Mom’s drawings again came to me out of the blue in June 2010. Her drawings had always been stored in the white cabinet in our (Manhattan) apartment. She … Read more
