serve up classic mint julep’s for st. patrick’s day – in a mint julep cup of course

Having friends over this weekend for St. Patrick’s Day? Why not serve fresh green mint cocktails like a classic mint julep recipe. I carry a vintage inspired mint julep cup on my shop. My silversmith and I found a julep cup from the 40’s and we had it replicated for my shop. I just love it. It’s a little taller and a little more slender than the readily available julep cups out there. And why not fill extra julep cups with mint as your table or bar decor- they will smell wonderful and your guests can use the mint to … Read more

the classic cape cod (& a black widow for halloween)

The classic “Cape Cod” cocktail is 2 oz. vodka over ice with 3 oz of cranberry juice as a mixer and garnish with lime. I made a slightly smaller Cape Cod in my Japanese etched 3 oz stem glass (that you can find at my store along with other larger glasses) and garnished with sugared cranberries on a pick. This is a perfect little cocktail for the holiday season. A twist for Halloween would be to use black vodka and cranberry juice to make a “Black Widow” and don’t stir- you will get a layered appearance in your glass. … Read more

Celebrated caterer Peter Callahan shares one of his favorite specialty drinks with me- his cranberry-tini

“Cranberry-tinis are one of my favorite specialty drinks, their color palette is striking which is an important component of a drink, and the flavor from fresh squeezed cranberries is crisp original and refreshing. Cranberry-tinis combine the two most important ingredients in a drink, color palette and flavor. Their palette of crimson red is a powerful color and the flavor is bold and universal.” says Peter Callahan. You can find the recipe to this drink in Peter’s recently published book, “Bite By Bite”. Peter’s “Peter Callahan Catering” is renowned for his miniature savory and dessert hors d’oeuvres. He’s done several parties … Read more
