Lynn’s wedding anniversary (& some photos!)

Today is my wedding anniversary. I thought I’d share with you our wedding photos that appeared in Martha Stewart Weddings and were photographed by Holger Thoss (so many years ago!). Our wedding was in NYC at Christ Church on 60th and Park Avenue at 12:35pm (because it’s good luck to have the second hand on the ‘up-swing’). After the ceremony, together with our guests we were led by  bagpipes up Park Avenue four blocks to the Hotel Plaza Athenee for an afternoon cocktail party with a live jazz band. It was a very small wedding, about 70 people. … Read more

hors d’oeuvres- serve them up in style

Last minute guests? Treat yourself to some stylish servers, bowls & spoons for your dips, veggies and cocktail munchies this holiday season.  I love to use our felt placemats on the table instead of a tray to add color and  place my servers and bowls on these (they also work great as trivets if you are serving something hot). Then I fill our stainless steel hors d’oeuvres bowl with veggies or nuts and I usually fill some individual matte and shiny bowls with dips, peanuts, dried fruit etc. so there is plenty to snack on with cocktails. this week’s color palette: jewel tones

Did you happen to see the November issue of Town & Country? It had a gorgeous story on jewels, photographed by Carlton Davis. I loved the photography and styling. He set the jewels on a Monopoly game board and creatively used the playing pieces, cards & dice. Simply Beautiful.

burlap wedding details

We were loving burlap as a tablecloth and runner so much for Thanksgiving, we thought we’d see what kind of burlap items were available for weddings and celebrations. Of course burlap usually lends itself to a casual or rustic style wedding and you don’t want to cover everything in burlap, just select a few details to be used throughout your event. Lynn has several rustic wedding inspiration photos on her Pinterest “weddings” board you might like.  (follow Lynn on Pinterest! simple thanksgiving decor -burlap & votives

A lot of people stress out about setting a table for Thanksgiving and I get a lot of questions about how to set a unique table without breaking the bank. BURLAP. I love taking burlap from the local garden supply store (about $1 per yard) and using it as a textural and inexpensive tablecloth. It’s simple and unexpected, but it will be welcomed by friends and family as a refreshing change from the usual cloth. My ‘stylist’ secret to making a burlap cloth work is to mix in high and low tableware. Here I’ve mixed in simple wood salt … Read more

pink christmas? it’s magical for little girls

Little girls will love a pink Christmas tree.  A small pink Christmas tree for their room with a neapolitan color theme could be perfect.  I found this inspirational photo above on homeanddecor.net. Linens and Things has a lot of pink artificial trees. If pink is too bright for your taste try a white tree and use pink and brown decorations. Below are some holiday shopping picks I found for decorating in this week’s color palette of pinks, whites and browns. our favorite hot chocolate

We drink hot chocolate every day at the little blue dish office. Our favorite brand when making it ourselves is Guittard. You can order it directly from their site or if you are in New York City, Fresh Direct carries it. When going out, our favorite hot chocolate haunts are Le Pain Quotidien in the city (they serve you hot milk and a pitcher of rich dark chocolate to pour in yourself), and in the Hamptons it’s The Golden Pear.
