can’t find inspiration for your wedding or party? browse a fabric store

If you are just overwhelmed at the possibilities for your wedding or holiday celebrations, take a break and head to your local fabric store. Browse the fabrics and you might just be inspired by a pattern, a color or a design. For weddings, even taking a cue from your wedding dress fabric can inspire a cake design like you see above. My longtime friend and collaborator, Ron Ben-Israel designed the cake above from a lace. Pull out a flower from the centerpieces or several types of flowers to adorn your cake as well, like these sugar orchids. (Ron is … Read more

How to plan the perfect baby shower (hint: start with the mom-to-be’s favorite colors)

An outdoor baby shower luncheon hosted by her best friends and family is any girls dream. White Peacock Events planned and styled this pretty shower, they said, “we wanted it to be girly and elegant”, and the talented Melissa Mlejnek photographed all the fun. (Don’t forget to hire a professional photographer for such a memorable occasion so you and your guests can just relax and enjoy!) What’s the best way to start to plan a party like this? By starting with a color palette. The momma to be’s favorite colors are gray and lavender so that became the … Read more

wolffer estate vineyard on long island’s east end is a gorgeous location for a wedding (or just an afternoon of wine tasting)

Located in beautiful Sagaponack, New York, in the Hamptons, Wolffer Estate Vineyard is absolutley stunning. Whether you are looking for a location for your wedding or for any private event you might want to check out this estate. The vines are so meticulous and the grounds transport you to another world- like you might even be in europe. pink elephants and green alligators make for a very happy birthday

For my girls’ 3rd birthday I found these fondant animals on etsy.com from “The Cupcake Stylist” and knew we had to do their whole birthday theme around these little animals. So the entire party became pink and green. Here’s a few personal snapshots of the details from our family cake party.  -Lynn Butler Beling Simple white buttercream cakes from our local Tate’s Bakery were adorned with the fondant animals I ordered from the shop The Cupcake Stylist on etsy.com. A serve yourself bar of pink lemonade with plastic bottles which were safe for little ones. Pink and … Read more

Layering in different colors into your wedding day can be tricky. These brides layered in our color palette of pink, yellow, red and blue in fun, but still pretty ways. From pale yellow and pink bouquets against red dresses, to streamers with globe lights this is proof a wedding can be casual and fun too. Too casual for your style? These can also be great color ideas for the rehearsal dinner or a welcome dinner for out of town guests. Red drinks with red striped straws are a fun way to add color to your cocktail hour. tabletop: citrus details bring a table to life

In continuation from yesterday’s post, I mentioned I would share more of the citrus story I created and styled for Martha Stewart Weddings. Above, a floral centerpiece incorporating citrus is the focal point, while a soft orange/yellow cloth lets it stand out.  White china, chairs and clear votives and glassware keep the table light and airy. Below, details of the table, like citrus lollipops covered in clear cellophane with a numbered round sticker to denote the table number. Attached to the lollipops with waxed twine are rectangular calligraphed place cards to personalize each pop (add a bit of … Read more

hors d’oeuvres- serve them up in style

Last minute guests? Treat yourself to some stylish servers, bowls & spoons for your dips, veggies and cocktail munchies this holiday season.  I love to use our felt placemats on the table instead of a tray to add color and  place my servers and bowls on these (they also work great as trivets if you are serving something hot). Then I fill our stainless steel hors d’oeuvres bowl with veggies or nuts and I usually fill some individual matte and shiny bowls with dips, peanuts, dried fruit etc. so there is plenty to snack on with cocktails. To … Read more

tuesday’s table talk: set your table with striped favor bags and send your friends home smiling

Fill these party bags with candy and goodies and place at each place setting. It’s easy and will make your guests smile! These yellow and white stripe party bags from Paper Eskimo (www.papereskimo.com) are only $9.95 for 12. Add a simple ribbon or twine to close the top or simply stand them upright. I filled these last weekend for my guests with vanilla salt water taffy (because the taffy is all white). I usually order taffy or other candy from www.candywarehouse.com. I keep a sampling of different colored bags, tags and ribbon on hand so it’s easy to … Read more
