this week’s color palette: reds, peach and burgundy

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner I think we all gravitate to reds for flowers and wrapping. You can make a red palette a bit more sophisticated by layering in shades of peach and burgundy and even violet. If you are planning on decorating a room though in this palette we found a great example in this nursery of using pattern and multiple colors within the main palette. Above are our selections for paint in this color palette from Benjamin Moore.

so, you want to paint your room purple? here are a couple suggestions

Selecting the right purple to paint your room is no easy task, so here are a couple recommendations for you. Above, a nice, light, calming shade from Benjamin Moore called Lavender Mist 2070-60 and below a warm, deep shade called Purple Haze 1413. Pair the deep hue with accents of Navy and it’s really striking and moody. Paint your trim in Decorators White like you see in the room above and it keeps it light and etherial.

take a walk through the market for inspiration for your next celebration

When planning an event like a wedding or birthday party take a walk through the farmer’s market or local specialty confections store and you’ll find lots of inspiration. Whether it’s for an already existing color palette that you’ve selected or you are really stumped on what colors to use, you’ll most likely find something that inspires you here. Our color palette this week is a lavender/mauve shade with a honey hue. Figs might not come to mind right away when you say that color palette aloud, but look at their beautiful colors. A fig cake could be just the thing … Read more

this week’s color palette: mauve, honey and white with metallic accents

I love this sophisticated palette and with hints of metallics it’s really beautiful isn’t it? I’ve selected a few Benjamin Moore paints to help guide you. The top, Decorators White is the white I always use for a ‘true’ white. I love it because it has just a tiny bit of gray in it to lessen the starkness. White dove is a soft creamy white that is a nice neutral for your walls and with Decorators White as your trim you will be able to see a difference in color. These colors can almost become a neutral palette when the … Read more

give a gift of lavender seeds

One of the most romantic gifts I’ve seen is when we were shooting a wedding for Martha Stewart Weddings in South Carolina. The wedding was held at the groom’s parent’s farm and to the left of the house was a huge field of poppies where the ceremony took place. The groom’s father had planted the entire field brimming with colorful poppies for his wife as an anniversary gift. She had no idea he had done that until they bloomed that year.  To me it represented love, patience, kindness and beauty. I thought I’d give you a reprieve today from all … Read more

Lavender as a theme for weddings and celebrations can be really beautiful. Paired with soft whites, grays and even navy, lavender can take on a very romantic and charming presentation. Whether it’s just infused in small bits, like in this place setting above or as accents to the bouquet below or used as a flavor in cocktails or desserts there are so many options once you have decided on lavender. A small bouquet of lavender for each guest makes a beautiful presentation whether it’s for a wedding or a holiday table setting. A classic lavender decorated cake. Just because you … Read more

this week’s color palette, lavender for holiday entertaining and decorating

I always think of maybe rosemary or cinnamon for the holidays, but this season I have been drawn to lavender. The soft pale violet color can be woven into the classic Christmas color palette colors whether it be red or greens. (I would choose to put lavender with either reds or greens, but probably not red and green together.) Lavender garnishes for cocktails, cakes, or in wreaths and tucked in garland can add a fragrant touch to your holiday entertaining and decorating. I found this lavender vanilla cocktail rim sugar from the Etsy shop, dellcovespices. It’s $3.95 for 2.5 … Read more
