tropical and citrus wedding details

We loved this wedding from Southern Weddings, photographed by KT Merry. Our palette of pinks and greens has a bit of ‘rust’ in the palette this week… which you could tweak to be a bit more orange to make a fun tropical color palette. Shot on location at the Boca Raton Restort & Club in Florida, we certainly don’t mind dreaming of warmer days under palm trees.

creating a beautiful place setting with black tableware and paper whites

So many of my clients are afraid of using black, including at their table. I’m a huge fan of black tableware, so much so I have a lot of black items from tumblers to linens to plates for sale on my shop.  Foods look so beautiful against black. Picture grilled corn, roasted tomatoes and a grilled fish against black- gorgeous. So when setting your table consider using black instead of basic white. Simply by using a black napkin with a simple cut paper white stem on top is a classic and beautiful place setting as you can see above. Below, … Read more

this week’s color palette: paper whites and dramatic black

Paper whites are in full bloom right now, and they are a very inexpensive way to bring in the hope of spring to your home. Whether you group them in clusters on your windowsill like I did below at a home for Real Simple magazine or in one large potted arrangement on a coffee table, nature has already done most of the work for you. They are beautiful in the terra cotta pots most come in, but if you want to pot them in different containers to go with your decor or color palette- I get most of my small … Read more

jen huang photography & her gorgeous blog

Although I have worked with many photographers that we have featured here on my blog, there are of course so many great photographers out there that I haven’t worked with and there is one lately I keep coming back to- Jen Huang. I love her style and that she can capture both the details, the essence of a location and the people (not so many photographers are good at both). Her main site has a handful of featured weddings and celebrations so you can see her overall style, but I love her blog. She posts many more shots there … Read more

this week’s color palette: pink and green

As much as you all know I love blue color palettes, I keep coming back to pink and green. I think it conjures up a fantasy world of sunny days by the ocean, coming straight out of the pages of a Slim Aarons photograph. It’s a palette that I think you dive into and go with 100 percent or it doesn’t quite work. Above are a few true pinks with red undertones from Benjamin Moore Paints as well as a stem green called Spring Meadow Green, not to be confused with just Spring Green which is much more dull … Read more

Our color palette this week of shades of blues and neutrals is perfect really any time of the year for any climate. It’s a perfect choice for seaside weddings and celebrations. Or pair blues with crisp white and silver, which as you saw on Tuesday’s post how it can be beautiful for winter celebrations too. Above, a collection of blue bottles makes a stunning centerpiece. Take time to gather a collection to use for a larger celebration when there are multiple tables. Many brides and event planners collect bottles, vases and containers in the months leading up to the celebration. … Read more

Crisp White with Navy for New Years Celebrations

Whether you celebrate on the eve of New Years or on New Years Day, white flowers are always a favorite of mine for table settings. Like a clean slate, white symbolizes a fresh start to the new year. Adding in crisp Navy in seating cards or menu cards adds a little depth and masculinity. Another beautiful option is to stay with the deep reds and burgundies of the holidays. You can tone down the all-red holiday look by using neutral or flax colored linens. To elevate a buffet, place labeled cards in front of food dishes. You might have fun … Read more

A red color palette for weddings and holiday celebrations

I think most of us correlate red with love and romance. So many brides chose red as their wedding color palette. And of course usually Christmas and Valentine decorations also use red as the main color. So we’ve compiled some inspiration for you today that you might be able to use this coming week or into the New Year. Above, Anemones are a gorgeous flower for bouquets and centerpieces. But if you are overwhelmed with too many choices remember that you can never go wrong with a classic bouquet or centerpiece of gorgeous red roses. Desserts are a great way to … Read more
