this week’s color palette: mauve, honey and white with metallic accents

I love this sophisticated palette and with hints of metallics it’s really beautiful isn’t it? I’ve selected a few Benjamin Moore paints to help guide you. The top, Decorators White is the white I always use for a ‘true’ white. I love it because it has just a tiny bit of gray in it to lessen the starkness. White dove is a soft creamy white that is a nice neutral for your walls and with Decorators White as your trim you will be able to see a difference in color. These colors can almost become a neutral palette when the … Read more

tabletop: mix old & new, metallics with black & white to create a very personalized setting

Pull out your favorite things from your cabinets….maybe even your grandmother’s china that’s been boxed in the attic to create an eclectic mix of old and new. Look around your house too, maybe you have a collection of small boxes, a gold leaf plate on your nightstand that holds your earrings- pull it all together to group on your table or sideboard. That little dish could now hold candy or sugar cubes, boxes could hold tea bags.. and so on. Black and white are so classic that the color palette is a great cohesive glue to allow you to combine … Read more

color palette: black, white with metallics

The other week we were talking about emerging color trends and I said I was excited to see what color dominated the award shows. Well, the emerald green that Pantone selected really wasn’t anywhere to be seen- that was on the red carpet a few years back. Black and white clearly dominated the red carpet with accents of gold and silver in accessories and small box clutches. Red, coral, plum, navy and light blue also made a few appearances but not like black and white. Dresses were either a combination of black and white like Julianne Moore’s Tom Ford dress, … Read more

park avenue perfection: whites, creams and metallics

Architect David Mann renovated this gorgeous apartment for Darcy Miller Nussbaum (Editorial Director for Martha Stewart Weddings) and her husband Andy and their three daughters. It was featured in Architectural Digest, photos by Nikolas Koenig. Darcy and Andy had used David Mann to design their previous apartment which I had the pleasure to see in person when I worked for Darcy at Martha Stewart Weddings.  It had a very similar color palette, but the details in this apartment are even more amazing! I love the use of the metallics in the chandeliers, tile, table bases etc.. I wanted … Read more

tabletop: whites, creams & metallics

Since summer is upon us, using coral and starfish for a centerpiece seems appropriate and so pretty in a white, cream and metallic color palette. I love using natural objects like the coral vs. flowers sometimes because I can set the table in advance and not have to worry about the centerpiece wilting or dying too early before my guests arrive. This coral piece and starfish I had as accents around my home and I just moved them to the table for a quick and easy centerpiece. Calligraphed place cards and a menu card, always make a table setting elegant … Read more
