bright paper flowers for a casual gathering

I found these fun paper flowers from Pearl River Mart– a great store at 477 Broadway in New York City (but they also have a website). They have amazing little finds for bowls, plates, serving utensils, paper lanterns, paper umbrellas etc.. If you haven’t been to Pearl River make sure to stop by if you are in Soho. These crepe paper flowers are just $4.95 per kit and the package says it makes 3 flowers (about 7 inches in diameter) but really I could make about 4-5 from the kit-very simple directions and the kit comes with green pipe cleaners for the ‘stems’. These can make fun decorations for a casual gathering. I took the pipe cleaner stem and wrapped it around a bundle of flatware wrapped in a paper napkin for each guest. I put them at each place setting, but it could also work for a buffet to keep all the utensils bound for each guest to pick up. These were so easy make but had a big impact. Because they are so easy to make, it’s even a great after school activity for kids of any age- just to liven up a week night family meal. The flowers come in a variety of colors, not just in this color palette. (I bought the ‘Cordelia Fuchsia Magenta’ Crepe Paper Flower Kit.) Glass tumblers, $6.50 each, “knifeforkspoon” 5 piece place settings, $52, and white dinner plates, $12.50 all from theproductgallery.com.
