this week’s color palette: pale neutrals

I was working with a client this weekend, beginning to discuss the color palette for the interior of his new beach home. We decided on this pale neutral palette to start and as we go on we can interject some deeper colors or soft blues but this was a great jumping off point. He wanted to go a bit more gray than brown. Above are the Benjamin Moore paint colors I selected for him as an overall base palette.  When you are faced with deciding on colors for an entire house it’s always good to pull out photo tears from magazines for your designer or builder to give them a visual of what style you like. Then consider what type of climate your home is in- whether it’s a warm climate or cold, whether you want your home to feel cooler or warmer. Other considerations are what each room is going to be used for and also which rooms face south, which will be lighter with direct sunlight and which rooms face north, which will be darker. If you think this palette might be too neutral for you, then consider that these are great backgrounds for strong pops of color as well- in furniture or accessories. Or it can stay a very restful palette like you see above in this bedroom example. -Lynn Butler Beling
