an easy table setting idea for mother’s day

Yesterday I talked about simple table settings for Mother’s Day using monochromatic flowers and baked goods. Here’s a very easy centerpiece and table setting that will be sure to make mom smile and she’ll have flowers to take home and enjoy or plant outside. I started with a simple white tablecloth and white china so the yellow accents would pop. I picked up small white flower pots and yellow marigolds at my local nursery (pots about $6 each) and lined them down the center of the table.  I wrapped striped yellow and white ribbon from Hyman Hendler around the plate and placed petit fours from my local bakery (about $2.50 each) on top of the ribbon, one for each place setting. I added yellow rectangular place cards (that I cut from yellow card stock) with each guests’ name in white ink (or you could print them from your computer) and tucked them under each petit four. Serve chilled lemonade, lemon water or even fun vanilla milkshakes to keep within the yellow and white color palette. Also, as I suggested yesterday, simply ask your guests to bring their presents wrapped in yellow and white to keep the palette cohesive.

Linens, white plates, basic clear glass tumblers and Alessi flatware, all from  The Product Gallery. Please browse the site if you haven’t already. There are many wonderful things for entertaining and there is a wedding & gift registry.

Tip: keep ribbon, plain paper, tissue, wrapping paper, gift bags and even cocktail napkins in many colors on hand so you don’t have to always run out and pick up supplies every time you have to wrap a present or personalize something.  I keep my supplies organized in clear plastic bins, labeled by color.
