color palette: blues, grays, off-white & bleached wood

This is by far one of my favorite color palettes. This bedroom is very similar to my own personal bedroom, though I have a bleached wood wall behind my velvet blue tufted headboard. Chalky white walls and bleached wood provide a beautiful neutral backdrop to so many palettes, but I love the shades of blues and grays with this one. I’ve selected some paint colors from Benjamin Moore to help recreate this look if you desire, or just to inspire. A painted bedside table in a soft gray also breaks up all the wood and adds a layer to … Read more

wallpaper without the commitment

I’ve been wanting to wallpaper a focus wall behind the bed in a guest room but I haven’t been able to commit to a pattern. Temporary wallpaper, that is similar to a wall decal, could be just the answer since I’m not 100% sure. Tempaper, self adhesive, repositionable, temporary wallpaper has several designs to choose from. I selected a few in this week’s color palette, but they have many colors available. I think I’m leaning toward the Peonies in Gold Leaf, pictured top left. Continuing clockwise the patterns are Skotti in blush, Edie in Champagne and Zee in Honey Wheat. … Read more

Interiors: small is the new big- creating small nooks & a movie’s charming english cottage

My husband has been saying this since we bought a tiny house by the ocean, “small is the new big”. Frankly it’s a joke between us because we can’t afford a larger house in our area. It’s wonderful to have a big home but large spaces aren’t always so comforting are they? There’s something to be said for small reading nooks, intimate dining rooms and petit gardens.  A friend of mine that has an enormous house says that his two daughters love it when they go on vacation and the whole family is in one hotel room. The girls feel … Read more

bring the outside in with ferns

Adding a print like ferns into your home can enliven your space and bring a sense of nature into your interior. Multiple botanical prints lined in a hall like pictured above is nice way to bring a cohesive design element into an otherwise dull space. Wallpaper is more of a commitment but a bold green fern print paired with whites makes a room look crisp and clean. If you don’t want to invest in wallpaper, try painting your room with a fern stencil. Or add simple fern print throw pillows to your bed or sofa. I love shopping … Read more

House Beautiful’s ‘bath of the month’

We had the honor of being featured in House Beautiful Magazine this month for their “Bath of the Month” article. This bath’s color palette was inspired by the stone fireplace and wood beam mantel that we posted on monday to launch this week’s color palette.

the big book of chic

This fall many new design books are being released, but across the board it seems the reviews for Miles Redd’s new book “The Big Book of Chic” are fantastic. It’s available to pre-order on Amazon and it’s expected release date is October 23rd, 2012. Sara Ruffin Costello, reviewing for The Wall Street Journal said, “Flipping through the pages is like going to a cocktail party in heaven in which Diana Vreeland insists you try the frozen vodka shots.”.

quick change: seasonal pillows & throws

A quick change to your living space can be just switching out your throw pillows and throws seasonally. By changing fabrics and colors from lightweight cottons & linens to brushed wools and velvets in deep jewel tones, your space can turn from summer to fall in a snap. You don’t always have to invest in the entire pillow, just the pillow covers. I use this time to have my pillow covers cleaned and I carefully store them away until the next season. Designer Victoria Hagan always pulls a room together so elegantly. Pictured above is a living room she designed … Read more

the st. regis hotel inspires us to decorate with “tiffany blue”

Last year the Tiffany Suite at the St. Regis Hotel in New York City was redesigned. It’s a 1,700 square foot suite on the 14th floor overlooking Fifth Avenue and Central Park.  The St. Regis was originally built in 1904 by John Jacob Astor and both the St. Regis and the Tiffany & Co. buildings are landmark buildings on Fifth Avenue. The suite has jewel inspired references and uses the ‘Tiffany Blue’ color as an accent color throughout. Above is a photo of the dining room and the team at Benjamin Moore especially selected these three colors for … Read more
