You can update the look of a traditional punch bowl just by using these other glasses and vessels. At the Philly Fish House in Philadelphia they take old wine bottles and recycle them by filling with their Philly Fish House Punch recipe and letting guests serve themselves from the bottles. Love those tumblers they show? We have them available on our shop. Here’s the link. (above photo by Tina Rupp) Consider using martini glasses to serve your punch to your guests instead of a tumbler or glass cup. This Pineapple Punch from Cosmopolitan looks great in a martini glass. this week’s color palette: a fall harvest palette
The leaves are starting to change here in New York and pumpkin fields are full. This time of year I love bringing out my Black Clay Pottery, black tumblers, flatware and decorative owls. Also setting the table with Terra Cotta Hurricanes and votives on our outside patio brings that garden feeling to the tabletop and act as a centerpiece. I like selecting muted color pumpkins for the table instead of the bright orange (which I usually save for pumpkin carving). Natural color linen table runners keep the table soft against the dark plates … Read more
how to create a simple buffet for entertaining
Setting up a casual buffet for entertaining friends at home can be simple. I like to bring a table that I usually use inside- outside for two reasons. One, it feels homey and creates a unique look. Two, it allows your outside patio table to be used to actually sit down and eat with your guests. If you don’t have an extra table, you can use anything from an old dresser or a cardboard table and drape it in a nice simple ivory cloth. Use everyday items from your kitchen like cutting boards , cereal bowls and tumblers as food … Read more
weddings: marrying your style to your location- here are our tips for a happy union
Sometimes trying to decide on the decor of a location for a celebration can be very tricky. The obvious is have the decor mirror the design aesthetic of the building but the location might not represent your style 100%. Here is an great example of a modern location but with natural branches as centerpieces- the opposite of what you might expect. By keeping the centerpieces all the same and all the table decor in a neutral color palette the execution is more modern in feel but the organic silhouette of the branches softens the modernity of the space. Simple hurricanes … Read more
add this week’s seashell color palette to your table this summer
This week’s palette may not be one you’d automatically think of when you think of summer entertaining. Sometimes these creams, tans, rusts and pinks are associated more with fall. But as you can see taking cues from the beach and seashells, this soothing palette is wonderful for summer tables. If you didn’t realize I have a shop too with tabletop, decor and garden items, all personally selected by me. If you haven’t already, please head over to take a look. It’s my favorite items and vendors collected from all my years of editing and styling for magazines. Our Read more
weddings: white, cream & gold candlelight aisle
Sometimes simplicity is best. Michael George always has the most beautifully tailored floral arrangements and here the calla lilies that are sleek and tailored work so well with the ornate setting with moldings and chandelier. Most people have been shying away from gold ballroom chairs, but like I have been talking about this week, gold and silver metallics are coming back into the fold again. I wanted to show a beautiful example of a classic gold ballroom chair being used – but yet it still feels fresh and current especially with the use of the straight sided hurricanes in different … Read more
