blue, red and white stripes for floors

As I discussed before- a rug can make a huge impact on your interior space. Check out this blue, red and white rug in this sophisticated blue and white room, photographed for Lonny Magazine and designed by Michele Bonan Interiors. The designer kept things crisp and clean with white painted trim, white furniture and pops of blue and red throughout the space. You could also play with stripes and ticking too for upholstered pieces to give a little more of a traditional feel to the decor. If you haven’t heard of Dash and Albert Rugs, check out … Read more

men’s ties

Did you know I have a men’s tie line? They are hand-made in NYC and are all cotton. Ties, bow-ties and pocket squares are available. Our ties are most popular with wedding parties, but men love them for their daily wardrobe too. Visit for photos and e-mail for inquiries. The ties have received some great press…they have been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Details, Elegant Bride, Martha Stewart Weddings and InStyle. I also have great how-to’s for tying a bow tie and a regular tie on the site!

coke centerpiece…easy!

Need an idea for a centerpiece for a last minute party?  I always look around the grocery store to see what I can purchase for a fun centerpiece while I’m doing the shopping- (or as I do in the summer, order directly from to avoid the crowds) A drink is always a quick and easy centerpiece….whether it’s multiple carafs of wine, lemonade, punch, or in this case to be festive in the blue, red and white color palette- old fashioned bottled coke. Most anything used in multiples in the center of a table can make a fun centerpiece. … Read more

The beverly hills hotel’s famous wallpaper

This iconic wallpaper was made famous by the Beverly Hills Hotel and it still adorns the diner and hallways there. Called ‘Martinque’ (by Donghia), it was created in the early 1940’s and used for the refurbishment of the hotel. Combined with pink accents and green and white stripes throughout the hotel, it’s an old-school application of the quintessential color palette. You gotta love it! Designers like Nate Berkus (photo below left, by simon upton for Elle Decor) and celebrities like Paris Hilton have recently used this pattern in homes. It has also showed up in fashion this spring, like … Read more

Pink & Green: the wedding of Laura & Tory Patterson

This gorgeous late summer wedding in Napa was designed by Isabella Sikaffy of Florabella Weddings and photographed by Liz Banfield. This application of the pink and green color palette is such a great example of understated chic. I love the simple wreaths with pink ribbons as bride and groom chair decorations and the overall table settings (see photo below) are just beautiful. Combining topiaries for the ‘green’ and white, cream and pink flowers interspersed down the long rectangular tables is so appropriate for an outdoor garden reception. I’ve been loving these long rectangular tables outside in a garden with the … Read more

recycled glass bottles- a simple floral centerpiece idea from lotte & bloom

I stumbled upon this amazing floral design company, Lotte & Bloom, owned by Lotte Lawson and based in Glasgow, Scotland.  Lotte & Bloom is a floral and event design studio that specializes in weddings.  I really liked Lotte’s aesthetic. Check out her site to see samples of some of her work. This (photo above ) is a great idea for a spring or summer centerpiece. Save your glass bottles in different heights and sizes and group together in the center of a round table or down the center of a rectangular table, then just add stems of your favorite … Read more

color palette: pink and green

There’s still nothing quite as fun as pink and green. Usually associated with ‘preppy’ many designers feature these colors in their lines still, usually with a modern take, like John Robshaw’s cotton Ikat prints (see pillow below) or a design like this inspirational photo that appeared in Lonny. But there’s still your tried and true brands like Lily Pulitzer to get your pink and green prep going. Whether for home or fashion, pink and green are always a happy, friendly color palette. Stripes, solids, patterns in anything from towels to painted walls, pink and green is still … Read more
