We’re loving the nautical influence this spring from fashion and home accessories, like this Rope Bowl, $40, from OKKNOT on etsy.com or this Top Rope Mirror, $219, from Land of Nod. Rope Table Lamp (base), $150, from Pottery Barn.  Rope Tie Back, $14, from Ballard Designs. this week’s color palette: sea blue, gray and a nautical black-gray and orange

Last week we talked about a nautical color palette, but what most people would consider a more tradition palette of navy, creams, white and a little red. This week I wanted to feature a different nautical inspired palette based off this photograph of a boat and rocks and a more hazy sky. The colors I chose this week from Benjamin Moore all have a bit more red in them to compliment the orange in the palette better. Instead of a black- black the baby seal black looks different in different types of light.. sometimes it looks deep blue, others … Read more

this week’s color palette: seashell inspired tans, pinks & neutrals

As the official start of the summer season starts today we were inspired by seashells. Nature is a wonderful place to start when you are looking for a color palette. It can be from the colors in an object, like this shell, or a larger landscape in general- for instance if you are looking at the ocean you have the sky, the many colors of blue in the sea, the white or tan sand, the green or straw beach grass- these can all inspire a palette. We have selected Benjamin Moore colors to help you apply this palette to … Read more

beach house color palette

Throughout the beach house I used Benjamin Moore’s, Blue Note, Westcott Navy, Seafoam, Ice Mist, Ocean Air, Gossamer Blue, Jamestown Blue, Rendezvous Bay and Calypso Blue. The formal dining/living/family room is painted in blue note- it’s warm and cozy and the black flat screen tv disappears against it. You almost feel like you are in a movie theatre. The casual breakfast room is painted in decorator’s white but the painter dropped about 2 drops of blue note into the white to make a beautiful blue gray. The hallways are painted in sea foam. The kitchen and … Read more

wedding photography: don’t forget to consider the details, guests and groom

Sometimes photographers get the most amazing photos at your wedding- not only of you but of the children and guests. A great photographer will always be looking around for those special moments to capture. A bad vendor will be standing in the corner on break eating or talking on their phone while your wedding is flashing before their eyes. I have seen both types at the weddings I have covered for magazines. Philippe Cheng though is one of the greats. I’m in love with this photo he took of the redheaded boys with all the graphic sea blue striped … Read more

color palette: sea blues

This is one of my favorite prints by John Dolan. It hangs in my entranceway and it makes me so happy all year, especially during the winter months. Believe it or not this photo was not taken in the Caribbean- which is where I think of when the phrase ‘sea blues’ is uttered. It was taken at a lake in Ireland, where coincidentally, generations back my father’s family lived. I love that the sea has so many shades of blues in the warm months and moves into grays when the clouds become overcast in the colder months. For the … Read more
