Andie’s Edible Sweets on Etsy.com has the most amazing sweets. The beautiful items on the shop are like miniature pieces of edible art. Impress your guests at thanksgiving with a leaf cake (with edible leaves) or put out these nut flavored candy acorns as treats! Branches, feathers, mushrooms, owls- they all can adorn a gorgeous fall buffet or wrap tiny bags of them as favors. They also have snowflakes as we head into winter or gorgeous chocolate seashells or even edible scrabble letters.  Take a look at the shop on etsy.com- you won’t believe your eyes!

create a dramatic table setting with black, peach and pale pink

I love these black compotes and bowls that I have on my online store, little blue dish. (They are made by an Italian glass company called Nason Moretti.) I like to fill vessels with candy for quick and easy centerpieces and also fill the felt favors you see tied with black polka dot ribbon with candy as well for guests to take home. This color palette could really work for any season and any occasion- and for more formal gatherings add a calligraphed place card for each guest within the palette. I alternated black cards with cream calligraphy and … Read more

candy heart favor tins for each placesetting for a valentine party

Another little candy favor is these heart tins from Paper Mart for about $1.10 each. Fill with candy hearts or any candy of your choice. For a more sophisticated party, wrap each heart with a ribbon in the candy heart pastel palette. For a more youthful party try these candy heart stickers from Michaels Craft Stores centered on each lid. Either way the tin is a nice little keepsake. Note: you can get candy hearts in bulk for $2.99 per pound from economycandy.com.

If you haven’t heard of them before, I hope you’ll check them out- we’re big fans of Uniqlo. Cashmere blend scarves are on sale for under $10, cashmere sweaters for … Read more

it’s a kid’s holiday: trees, candy & oscar oh my!

I’m so glad I’ve saved several of the Martha Stewart Kids issues that I used to work on because this Candy Tree (photographed by Anna Williams) is so pretty I wanted to share it with you. Art Director, Deb Bishop did such an amazing job on these specials. I love the candy sticks around the bottom and the jelly candy as ornaments. Now that I have toddlers running around I realize you can’t put those ornaments from Bergdorf anywhere near the bottom of the tree – if at all!  Here are some online candy shops to help you recreate this look: … Read more

this week’s color palette: pink, white & brown

Most of us know this color palette by the name ‘neapolitan’, deriving from popular Italian desserts layering three flavors- chocolate, vanilla & strawberry being the most popular. This color combination is wonderful for parties and candy buffets. Candywarehouse.com has several neapolitan candies for you to give as sweets & favors for the holidays..and even stocking stuffers. Here’s a classic neopolitan candy bar that you can buy in bulk- a 24 piece box for $24! They even have salt water taffy and lollipops. Fill these party bags with candy and goodies and place at each place setting. It’s easy and will make your guests smile! These yellow and white stripe party bags from Paper Eskimo (www.papereskimo.com) are only $9.95 for 12. Add a simple ribbon or twine to close the top or simply stand them upright. I filled these last weekend for my guests with vanilla salt water taffy (because the taffy is all white). I usually order taffy or other candy from www.candywarehouse.com. I keep a sampling of different colored bags, tags and ribbon on hand so it’s easy to … Read more
