A backyard playhouse full of color and fun…from a kit made by a family business in ohio!

Take a peek at my girls backyard playhouse. I purchased this playhouse kit from the Little Cottage Company (a family owned business located in Ohio) for my kids and what a great find! My girls spend hours in this cottage, which is complete with 2 dutch doors (one for little ones and one for grown-ups), working windows with screens and even flower boxes. It took a friend and I about a day and a half to put the kit together and it was pretty easy to do. (the only thing really not included are roof shingles, but I used the extra ones … Read more

tabletop: scrabble alphabet “place cards”

On a recent weekend I hosted guests I used wood scrabble pieces as place cards. The family I hosted also had two young boys, so these were great for both adults and children. I spread the pieces out on the table for the kids to spell out the names themselves. It involved them in the table setting and it was just a fun idea for a casual table setting. it’s a kid’s holiday: trees, candy & oscar oh my!

I’m so glad I’ve saved several of the Martha Stewart Kids issues that I used to work on because this Candy Tree (photographed by Anna Williams) is so pretty I wanted to share it with you. Art Director, Deb Bishop did such an amazing job on these specials. I love the candy sticks around the bottom and the jelly candy as ornaments. Now that I have toddlers running around I realize you can’t put those ornaments from Bergdorf anywhere near the bottom of the tree – if at all!  Here are some online candy shops to help you recreate this look: … Read more

count your steps: decal numbers for stairs

A fun idea for your stairs, especially if you have young children, is to add wall decal numbers to the risers of your stairs. This is much easier than painting on a stencil and they are easily removable. I usually use the company Wall Words for any decal project I do. For this one I used “Garamond” type in 2.5 inches in height and the color I chose was “Wedgewood Blue”. When I entered the custom order I just made sure to put enough spaces in between the numbers so I would be sure to have enough room to … Read more
