weddings: a tiffany inspired table setting

Event designer and florist, Michael George and I worked on this story for InStyle. Inspired by Tiffany Blue, we used the color in small details and accents throughout vs. draping everything in blue. We selected white flowers, cloths, chairs, china etc. as our backdrop for the blue to pop. Using different sized vases in blues and whites from Middle Kingdom we placed them running down the center of long rectangular tables keeping them low so guests can see each other.  Notice to add interest to the centerpieces we used all different types of white flowers- but did not mix … Read more

weddings: a classic wedding reception by Michael George takes cues from the surrounding foliage

Michael George does simplicity so well. His attention to detail and stem finishes and cuts are so precise every arrangement is a piece of art. Here he brought 3 different white flowers together in 3 varying heights and exposed their expertly cut green stems in clear glass vessels to create a visually interesting centerpiece. Though Michael’s perfection in cutting and binding stems is very organized, his event design is so classic, most of his palettes follow natural color combinations and textures so that his events never feel contrived. The varying size and height of the hanging lanterns, combined with … Read more

weddings: white, cream & gold candlelight aisle

Sometimes simplicity is best. Michael George always has the most beautifully tailored floral arrangements and here the calla lilies that are sleek and tailored work so well with the ornate setting with moldings and chandelier. Most people have been shying away from gold ballroom chairs, but like I have been talking about this week, gold and silver metallics are coming back into the fold again. I wanted to show a beautiful example of a classic gold ballroom chair being used – but yet it still feels fresh and current especially with the use of the straight sided hurricanes in different … Read more

fresh peonies, michael george’s favorite flower!

It’s that time of year for big, beautiful blooms of peonies. Since I began the week with sugar peonies (by Ron Ben-Israel) I thought it was fitting to feature fresh peonies. These peonies are arranged by Michael George. Michael is known for his monochromatic and mono-genus arrangements with perfectly clean cut stems. And it also seemed fitting to feature his fresh peonies because they are his favorite flower. Michael once said to me, “I think of the peony as the queen of the garden and the rose as the duchess.” (I found it interesting that he had a definite favorite … Read more
