blue, red and white stripes for floors

As I discussed before- a rug can make a huge impact on your interior space. Check out this blue, red and white rug in this sophisticated blue and white room, photographed for Lonny Magazine and designed by Michele Bonan Interiors. The designer kept things crisp and clean with white painted trim, white furniture and pops of blue and red throughout the space. You could also play with stripes and ticking too for upholstered pieces to give a little more of a traditional feel to the decor. If you haven’t heard of Dash and Albert Rugs, check out … Read more

men’s ties

Did you know I have a men’s tie line? They are hand-made in NYC and are all cotton. Ties, bow-ties and pocket squares are available. Our ties are most popular with wedding parties, but men love them for their daily wardrobe too. Visit littlebluedish.com for photos and e-mail questions@lynnbutler.com for inquiries. The ties have received some great press…they have been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Details, Elegant Bride, Martha Stewart Weddings and InStyle. I also have great how-to’s for tying a bow tie and a regular tie on the site!

coke centerpiece…easy!

Need an idea for a centerpiece for a last minute party?  I always look around the grocery store to see what I can purchase for a fun centerpiece while I’m doing the shopping- (or as I do in the summer, order directly from freshdirect.com to avoid the crowds) A drink is always a quick and easy centerpiece….whether it’s multiple carafs of wine, lemonade, punch, or in this case to be festive in the blue, red and white color palette- old fashioned bottled coke. Most anything used in multiples in the center of a table can make a fun centerpiece. … Read more

saturday shopping at abc carpet & home

abc carpet & home in NYC is an amazing place for furniture and home accessories shopping. I usually start with breakfast or lunch with friends at Le Pain Quotidien on the first floor and then go floor by floor. The Silk Trading Company (fabric, drapes & accessories) used to be in the basement, but now Conrans moved in about a year ago. I snapped some shots of a few of my favorite finds. I love the tufted navy linen ottoman- I might need to get that as a new coffee table for our family room. (my house … Read more

auntie mame! auntie mame!

My friends and I are diehard Auntie Mame serial watchers. We absolutely love the 1958 film version of Warner Bros.’s “Auntie Mame” starring Rosalind Russell. It is eye candy for the decorating obsessed and is filled with many amusing lines that we repeat over and over. I think if you know New York City at all, you might find it funnier than if you’re not familiar with New York (“well I almost had to get out my foreign visa and set sail for Brooklyn!”) But the sets are truly inspirational, so take a peek if you have never seen … Read more

Lavender sparkling water

Now that we have longer days it’s easier to entertain friends and family outdoors. Try a lavender syrup with sparkling water for a refreshing drink. (add a touch of champagne for a cocktail) I used tall, simple, clear tumblers so the lavender color shows, but it would look very special in clear etched glasses for a special evening presentation. I always keep a few bottles of syrup and Pellegrino on hand in case someone drops by unannounced. Lavender syrup, $21 a bottle, and clear champagne basic tumbler, $21 each, both from The Product Gallery.

color palette: shades of lavenders and blues

This week’s color palette is shades of lavenders and blues. Did you ever noticed the different range of these colors in flowers?  The shades go from deep cornflower blue to the lavender color you find with lilacs (with more red in it). Just as in nature all these shades work beautifully together. This inspirational photograph is courtesy of Yifat Oren & Associates. Yifat is an amazing wedding and events planner based in Los Angeles. Most recently you might have read about her planning Reese Witherspoon’s wedding. Her events seem to have a controlled ease to them, making me want … Read more
