I try to keep a variety of colors in the color palettes I feature each week but lately I’ve been posting many shades of blues and neutrals. Seeing this photo from the Hermes Spring 2013 this weekend I just kept coming back to it again and again. It just feels so elegant, easy, crisp and understated. You can read the entire article “The Discreet Charm of Chistophe Lemaire” on online.wsj.com. I pulled out a few Benjamin Moore paint colors from this inspirational photo as a more useful tool if you love this palette for your home. You can … Read more

color palette: shades of whites and creams
As most of us are on holiday, it allows a little extra time for baking and cooking for family and friends. One of my favorite books is Donna Hay’s Flavors. The chapters are broken up into vanilla, lemon + lime, ginger, chilli, garlic + onion, chocolate, salt + pepper, basil + mint, and cinnamon + spice. Each chapter gives you the ‘basics’, quick good ideas and simple recipes. Pictured above from the book are her vanilla meringues. Here is the recipe in case you’d like to try them. An all-white New Year’s Eve party can be very chic. These … Read more
this week’s color palette, woodland neutrals & chocolate browns: meringue mushrooms…oh wendy kromer we love them!
I’ve been so inspired this month by the color palettes of natural birch, pinecones and even mushrooms. A gift of fruitcake…hmmm maybe not, but fruitcake cupcakes with meringue mushrooms? Yes, please! I’ve always loved cupcakes but for some reason I’ve been obsessed of late. These kind of details might be left to more advanced bakers but we’re in luck! We can order them straight from the best. Call on the cake expert (co-author of Martha Stewart Wedding Cakes and long time contributor to Martha Stewart Weddings Magazine), Wendy Kromer, who can whip up the most beautiful cake or small … Read more
simple thanksgiving decor -burlap & votives
A lot of people stress out about setting a table for Thanksgiving and I get a lot of questions about how to set a unique table without breaking the bank. BURLAP. I love taking burlap from the local garden supply store (about $1 per yard) and using it as a textural and inexpensive tablecloth. It’s simple and unexpected, but it will be welcomed by friends and family as a refreshing change from the usual cloth. My ‘stylist’ secret to making a burlap cloth work is to mix in high and low tableware. Here I’ve mixed in simple wood salt … Read more

Interior designer, Darryl Carter, teamed up with Benjamin Moore Paints to create Darryl Carter Colors by Benjamin Moore. The paints start with DC-1 and go to DC-24. Darryl Carter frequently is featured in the major shelter magazines and has his own decorating books called “The New Traditional” and a new book launching this October titled “The Collected Home: Rooms with Style, Grace and History”. Both are available to buy and pre-order on Amazon. I wanted to include this paint collection in this week’s color palette of white, neutrals and browns because Darryl is an expert on these neutral … Read more
tuesday’s tabletop: metal hanging labels as placecard holders
I found these metal hanging labels that make great placecard holders for a rustic, casual table setting. Cream card stock cut down to size with each guests’ name and leather lacing tied through the hole finish it off. (These would be perfect in conjunction with the menu card on a wooden clip board for the table that I featured yesterday from “The Barn” restaurant-see photo below via &SMITH) SOURCES: Set of 12 metal hanging label holders, $18, from Ballard Designs, Linen Napkin, $22, from The Product Gallery/ Little Blue Dish Shop, Leather Lacing, from S & S … Read more
this week’s color palette: white, neutrals, & brown (variations found in metals, wood, leather & stone)
I’ve had this photo on my inspiration board for months now so I thought I should include it in a color palette. While searching the internet one day I came across this design firm called &SMITH based in London. I love the print design they did for a restaurant called “The Barn” at Coworth Park in England. I also liked that they put the menu on an old fashioned clip board- a great idea too for a wedding or party to display a table name, number or the dinner menu. The details they did like the sign, illustrations and … Read more
