Green is definitely a big focus color for 2013 as well as a return to crisp clean colors. But any color combination or personal objects can serve as seeds for unique and personal wedding designs. Think of planning your wedding as a process of hunting and gathering: You’re hunting for personal, meaningful items and gathering design details that will allow you to bring out the elements you most love about these items. Fresh ideas can come from anywhere, be it an interesting trinket I pick up in a Paris flea market, or a beautiful piece of fruit at my local … Read more

books: carolyne roehm’s “flowers”
I’m a collector of Carolyne Roehm’s books and I hope that her latest book “Flowers” will show up under my Christmas tree! Here’s a gorgeous example of a floral arrangement using reds, but with the accent colors of corals, pinks and burgundy (deep red) that I suggested in this weeks’ color palette (featured on monday). What a great hostess gift or for the gardener on your list. This book includes glossaries of flowers, so it’s a resource book as well.

tabletop: 2 ways to liven up your place setting
One wooden button, used two different ways. I found these simple wood buttons at Michael’s and painted them red (this took less than 15 minutes using “craft smart” metallic paint in red). The first idea is a classic red and white place setting using white round plates, red linen napkins and red grosgrain ribbon tied through the button holes to make 2 bows. The second idea uses favor boxes at each place setting. Each box is wrapped in wrapping paper, and the button is bound on top of the box with two pieces of burgundy velvet ribbon. I … Read more
this week’s color palette: red and white (today I’m sharing my ribbon sources with you)
Red and white is a classic choice for Holiday decorating this time of year. To put a little twist on your red and white palette, try the accent colors I’m suggesting. Pair red and white with one of the accent colors or all of them. Try adding in pink, coral, burgundy and/or brown. Add these accent colors in floral arrangements, gift wrapping, wreaths, candles, glasses, pillows, throws and of course ribbon. Here are some of my stylist sources for beautiful ribbons: Masterstroke Canada, Hyman Hendler, M&J Trimming, The Container Store, Etsy, Bell’occhio, Cream City Ribbon and … Read more
Lynn’s wedding anniversary (& some photos!)
Today is my wedding anniversary. I thought I’d share with you our wedding photos that appeared in Martha Stewart Weddings and were photographed by Holger Thoss (so many years ago!). Our wedding was in NYC at Christ Church on 60th and Park Avenue at 12:35pm (because it’s good luck to have the second hand on the ‘up-swing’). After the ceremony, together with our guests we were led by bagpipes up Park Avenue four blocks to the Hotel Plaza Athenee for an afternoon cocktail party with a live jazz band. It was a very small wedding, about 70 people. … Read more
pink christmas? it’s magical for little girls
Little girls will love a pink Christmas tree. A small pink Christmas tree for their room with a neapolitan color theme could be perfect. I found this inspirational photo above on homeanddecor.net. Linens and Things has a lot of pink artificial trees. If pink is too bright for your taste try a white tree and use pink and brown decorations. Below are some holiday shopping picks I found for decorating in this week’s color palette of pinks, whites and browns. Credits: Super Nova Ornament in pink, $5.95 each and Polka Dot Sheet Set, $14-119, from Land of Nod, Read more
