For my girls’ 3rd birthday I found these fondant animals on etsy.com from “The Cupcake Stylist” and knew we had to do their whole birthday theme around these little animals. So the entire party became pink and green. Here’s a few personal snapshots of the details from our family cake party. -Lynn Butler Beling Simple white buttercream cakes from our local Tate’s Bakery were adorned with the fondant animals I ordered from the shop The Cupcake Stylist on etsy.com. A serve yourself bar of pink lemonade with plastic bottles which were safe for little ones. Pink and … Read more

an elegant southern wedding: kaminer haislip to matthew quinn, charleston, south carolina
A few months ago I introduced you to silversmith Kaminer Haislip. (read the full post here) She designs the most beautiful pieces so it’s no surprise that her wedding was elegant and sophisticated too. Kaminer and her husband, Matthew were married in the month of September in Charleston, South Carolina, so a color palette of gray, orange, creamy whites and blues was just perfect. (see our color palette this week that we introduced on Monday for your color guide) They were married at First Scots Presbyterian Church and held their reception at the William Aiken House … Read more
chocolate chip cheesecake
I worked at a little jazz club one summer when I was in college. When we went in early for staff dinner the owner, who was the chef, always had chocolate chip cheesecakes cooling on the racks and we could eat warm slices before we opened the doors. I keep thinking about this cheesecake and wish I had asked for the recipe! But I found a recipe that looks similar and I thought I’d share it with you today. It’s great to make ahead if you are having weekend guests- it’s 30 minutes prep time, one hour bake time … Read more
Finding Comfort with Sweets
Usually we post about interiors on Thursdays. But this last week has been so hard for my neighboring New Yorkers that we thought…a lot of people are just too overwhelmed to think of paints and furniture and throws, when they’ve just been without power for a week or are dealing with flood damage. It has 2 wonderful recipes for Neapolitan cakes– an inside out cake and a 5 layer cake. Sometimes baking and giving baked goods … Read more
fern & woodland inspired cake

The cake is made of smooth buttercream-frosted tiers. Buttercream piped ferns, real acorns and oak leaves adorn the layers. Many printing companies can add almost any icon of your choice to tie all your details of your wedding together. Pictured below is an example of a fern invitation from minted.com. You could also use the icon on matchbooks, napkins and programs. Ferns and woodland elements (such as moss, leaves and … Read more
