This week’s color palette is based on periwinkle blue and natural golden wood or grass tones. Hawthorn green by Benjamin Moore has a mix of brown and yellow and green, like fall grasses might appear. They all work wonderfully together as a palette. We’re seeing periwinkle pop into spring palettes and we love revisiting this color. This palette could work for just about any room in your home as it’s both restful and classic.

this week’s color palette: blues, rust and buff
As winter starts to fade away and we’re seeing small signs of spring we were inspired by this image and a color palette fitting of a crisp climate. I personally love working with the 2129 family of paints from Benjamin Moore. Soot and Blue Note (2129-30) are a few of my favorite deep dark blues to use, for doors, dining rooms and media rooms. If you want a happy, feminine dressing room, girls room or sitting room the light peach shades are wonderful especially in a light drenched room. When we were looking at this palette, my team and I … Read more
this week’s color palette: spring greens, pinks and a bit of rust
What can I say besides I think everyone is more than ready for spring to arrive. We had another palette ready for you but after this morning’s snow we decided on this palette inspired by peonies instead. We love the shades of green with the pinks and we drew the rust from the color of the pollen which seems to elevate the palette just a bit. All paint colors are from Benjamin Moore.
this week’s color palette inspired by wild gazelle at the Natural History Museum
A trip to New York’s Natural History Museum inspired our color palette this week. The coloring on these gazelles was so stunning. I centered around Benjamin Moore’s Mt. Rainier Gray and Flint, part of their 2014 color trends and filled in the neutrals from there for one of our new favorite color palettes! (this photo was taken by Lynn Butler personally on her iPhone and it is NOT a stock photograph)
this week’s color palette: pale neutrals
I was working with a client this weekend, beginning to discuss the color palette for the interior of his new beach home. We decided on this pale neutral palette to start and as we go on we can interject some deeper colors or soft blues but this was a great jumping off point. He wanted to go a bit more gray than brown. Above are the Benjamin Moore paint colors I selected for him as an overall base palette. When you are faced with deciding on colors for an entire house it’s always good to pull out photo tears from … Read more
this week’s color palette: reds, peach and burgundy
With Valentine’s Day just around the corner I think we all gravitate to reds for flowers and wrapping. You can make a red palette a bit more sophisticated by layering in shades of peach and burgundy and even violet. If you are planning on decorating a room though in this palette we found a great example in this nursery of using pattern and multiple colors within the main palette. Above are our selections for paint in this color palette from Benjamin Moore.
this week’s color palette: paper whites and dramatic black
Paper whites are in full bloom right now, and they are a very inexpensive way to bring in the hope of spring to your home. Whether you group them in clusters on your windowsill like I did below at a home for Real Simple magazine or in one large potted arrangement on a coffee table, nature has already done most of the work for you. They are beautiful in the terra cotta pots most come in, but if you want to pot them in different containers to go with your decor or color palette- I get most of my small … Read more
this week’s color palette: pink and green
As much as you all know I love blue color palettes, I keep coming back to pink and green. I think it conjures up a fantasy world of sunny days by the ocean, coming straight out of the pages of a Slim Aarons photograph. It’s a palette that I think you dive into and go with 100 percent or it doesn’t quite work. Above are a few true pinks with red undertones from Benjamin Moore Paints as well as a stem green called Spring Meadow Green, not to be confused with just Spring Green which is much more dull … Read more
this week’s color palette: neutral whites
Continuing with neutrals this week I have selected some of my favorite whites that all have a bit of gray in them- even though the computer doesn’t show the colors as they really look. The exception would be Picket Fence which is a darker neutral. These shades of white change throughout the day when they are in your home. Decorators White is my go-to white when I need a clean white for cabinets, moldings etc.. All paint swatches are from Benjamin Moore Paints. Above are some beautiful neutral knitted scarves from Purl Soho, a wonderful shop in New York City … Read more
