create a neutral color palette with gray & green

When people think of neutrals most automatically think of tans and creams, but gray and green can be a nice alternative. Whether it’s light or dark gray, both shades are still very neutral. Green solids or patterned fabrics add dimension and texture like this upholstered headboard in Elizabeth Mayhew’s bedroom above or these solid green drapes in a dining room pictured below. Blending in cream or white balance the overall palette. This week’s color palette of creams, a peachy pink, blues with a touch of green is really a perfect wedding color palette. this week’s color palette: cream, peach, blues.. with a dab of green and gold

I’ve had this inspirational color palette on my pinterest page for awhile now and I just keep coming back to it. I love the layering of color and pattern of creams, a peachy pink and shades of blue. To me as a stylist that pop of green in the book is a great reminder… a reminder that a little pop of bright color in an otherwise very tight color palette is that layer that makes this a very interesting palette rather than a quiet, pretty palette. I really love these plates and bowls that I have at my shop. They are from a collection called Mud Austalia (made in Austalia) and it has to be one of my favorite lines of tableware. The inside is glazed and the outside is matte. We carry them in cream and a slate color. Inspiration can come from anywhere. It can come from nature, a piece of fabric, art, fashion.. and in this case a little bit of all of those. Turning through magazines you might run into an ad that you just stop and stare at for a moment. When I turned to this Celine ad I immediately loved the color palette. Photographer, Liz Banfield shared the gray paint color with us in her lovely studio- it’s Benjamin Moore’s Wickham Gray. Her designer, Janet Gridley, layered in creams, golds with pops of fun and energetic yellow. Recently I’ve been going to podiatrist, Dr. Langone and she recommends Dr.’s Remedy Enriched Nail Polish which is free of the three big toxins: formaldehyde, toluene and DBP. we’re loving RH’s faux fur for holiday gifts

Restoration Hardware has some great faux fur gifts this year…at great prices! We snagged several of these faux fur wine bags for just $9 each and faux fur scarves for just $29 each. We also love their faux fur blankets (bigger than a throw) that cover the entire bed, on sale now for $199 (originally $250). It feels so decadent to snuggle up in this soft fur. add layers of texture to your table setting

By layering different textures when setting a table you can add visual interest. Here I set a deep gray wood table with charcoal gray felt placemats. Then I added horn handled flatware and glazed china with a fine gauge gray linen napkin. A little whimsy never hurts either. I love to use these faux birds (see photos below) which you can find at most any craft store. I placed a bird in a cup of peanuts leaning over a glass tumbler like he’s going to take a drink.
